I am a Full Professor and a Clinical and Medical psychologist in the Department of Social & Health Sciences (the Interdisciplinary Department of Social Sciences) and the Music Department at BIU. I joined BIU on 10/2000 after serving in the IDF. Since 2022, I have integrated Virtual Reality (VR) technology into clinical practice, collaborating with international colleagues and graduate students to develop VR simulations for therapeutic interventions. My research interests encompass aging and lifespan psychology, focusing on ageism, attachment, perceptions of aging, and their effects on health and rehabilitation. I also study the psychology of music, particularly in how music regulates emotions and fosters social cohesion. Additionally, I have extensive experience in clinical psychology, specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and trauma, including PTSD, and supervising young clinicians in these fields. I am committed to advancing research and clinical applications that bridge psychology and innovative technologies to improve patient rehabilitation.

K. Main Research, Professional Interests, and Contribution of Science
1.Virtual Reality in PTSD Treatment and Aging
My research on the intersection of aging, trauma, and PTSD is intended to lead to significant contributions in the development of virtual reality (VR) interventions for trauma therapy. My current work with international researchers (Mikulincer and Rizzo) is focused on the application of VR to support attachment theory, prolonged exposure, and emotional regulation in trauma survivors, including older adults. By integrating VR interventions that personalize and dynamically respond to trauma triggers, we are currently developing methods and tools that aim to enhance treatment efficacy for PTSD in both veterans and civilians. The work conducted with VR and attachment theory provides a promising avenue for therapeutic interventions, especially in regions affected by war and trauma, such as my country (Israel).

2. Health, Aging, and PTSD: The Role of Subjective Age
In exploring the relationship between PTSD and aging, my work has highlighted how subjective perceptions of age and nearness to death significantly impact mental health and PTSD symptoms. This line of research reveals how older adults’ sense of self, in terms of their subjective age, influences their ability to cope with PTSD, suggesting that younger age identity and emotional complexity can mitigate the mental distress caused by trauma. Additionally, my work investigates how attachment styles and perceptions of death influence the severity of PTSD symptoms in aging populations. These findings are relevant for developing personalized, age-sensitive therapeutic approaches.

3. Music Therapy and Emotional Regulation in Aging and PTSD
My research has examined the potential of music therapy to regulate emotions in both older adults and trauma survivors, with a particular focus on PTSD. The work involves understanding how different musical elements influence emotional regulation and how these elements can be used therapeutically for individuals with PTSD. Music, particularly when integrated into VR-based interventions, offers a promising modality for providing emotional support and reducing PTSD symptoms, particularly among older adults. This research underscores the importance of tailored interventions that consider both age-related changes and trauma-related needs.

4. Attachment Theory and PTSD: Aging Populations
My research investigates how attachment styles interact with PTSD symptoms in older adults, emphasizing the moderating role of attachment in trauma recovery. Attachment theory has provided a framework for understanding how early relationships impact later life trauma experiences and recovery. By exploring how attachment figures influence PTSD outcomes in both young and older adults, future interventions may better support trauma survivors across the lifespan, and also in aging populations where age-related vulnerabilities may compound trauma experiences.
