    ד"ר אסף שרעבי הוא מרצה בכיר בבית הספר למדעי ההתנהגות במרכז האקדמי פרס, ומרצה מן החוץ באוניברסיטת בר אילן. את לימודי התואר השלישי סיים ב-2010 באוניברסיטת בר אילן. תחומי העניין וההתמחות שלו הם אנתרופולוגיה וסוציולוגיה של הדת, ריפוי טקסי, אנתרופולוגיה של אלים, אנתרופולוגיה של ההינדואיזם ואנתרופולוגיה של היהדות. הוא פרסם בנושאים אלו מאמרים בכתבי עת בינלאומיים שונים. שדות המחקר שלו הם הודו (ההימלאיה המערבית) וישראל. ב-2021 זכה מחקרו "אלים ואלות במערב ההימלאיה – מחקר אתנוגרפי השוואתי" במענק מחקר מהקרן הלאומית למדעים (ISF). ב-2023 יצא לאור בהוצאת אוניברסיטת אמסטרדם ספרו The Biography of a God: Mahasu in the Himalayas.
